Chelsea, August 2005. In conjunction with NYC Citywide Open Studios, ART GOTHAM is pleased to present The Square Foot Show, a group exhibition of artists from all boroughs of New York City who will participate in the Citywide Open Studio.

We enter this world with both the boundless freshness of new life and the limitations of the world to which we are born into. The fertile soil of our limitations allows us to find ways to create opportunities, alternatives and solutions that we perhaps would not have arrived at if not given such boundaries. Coming from that place of limitations, we naturally and innately counteract with ingenuity, creativity, invention and boldness.

Drawing on this idea, The Square Foot Show sets the stage for each artist to create his or her unique work - boundless creation and ingenuity inspired by existing boundaries. Each artist in this dynamic group exhibition will start from square one. They were given a uniform one by one foot square canvas as a base on which to leave their individual artistic marks. All works on display are fresh and will have been created within the past two months

Then, the final results will be displayed at ART GOTHAM during the Manhattan Open Studios weekend (Saturday Oct. 1st, Sunday, Oct. 2nd and Monday, Oct. 3rd, 2005) with a closing reception in which the silent auction for the artworks will end promptly at 8:00pm on Monday night. All artists who participate in the Open Studio event, collectors, press and other art enthusiasts are invited to the reception to celebrate the arts community of New York City.

Information for collectors
There will be hundreds of original, fresh artworks on show from living, New York artists. The opening bid for each work is only $100. Silent bids can be made throughout the weekend event and on Monday night at 8:00 pm sharp the bidding will close.

The 12x12 inches size will work in almost any room in your home. Your guests will defintely notice your unique artwork. This is an excellent opportunity to discover an artist After viewing the Square Foot Show at ART GOTHAM, you will know which artists' studios you are interested in visiting.

This event is where you can discover and support a living, local artist. Live with Art!

Information for artists
This event is designed to support living New York-area artists who will participate in the New York Open Studios event and who use media that can work on the official 12x12 inch/1.5 inches thick canvas. Even photographers or sculptors are invited as long as their work can be displayed on this canvas and be easily hung with two nails. The goal is to publicize New York artists and show newly created work by local artists.

You will also receive a clear cover which will be included in a notebook to go with the exhibit. Please fill it front and back with any information about you and your art for collectors and other gallery visitors to read.

This event is an excellent opportunity for an artist at any level to experience a community event, receive publicity and exhibit at a Chelsea gallery. The closing reception on Monday, October 3rd will be exciting and enjoyable forum to watch the silent bids come in......
